Men’s Frames

Mens EyewearWhile Women are more interested in style, men are more concerned with the comfort, fit and durability of their eyewear. Men choose eyewear based on how the glasses feel on the face—are the arms digging into the temples? Does the nosepiece pinch? Am I getting sores on my ears? Durability is another common concern of men when choosing eyewear. Men appreciate spring hinges and flexible frames so they glasses won’t break as easily.

Check out these important areas to make sure the eyewear you choose will fit comfortably:

• Make sure the frames are wide enough for your face. This will prevent the temple arms from pressing on the side of your head.

• The glasses you choose should have temple arms that are the right size for your face. The optician can reshape the curve that goes over your ear so it doesn’t press on it, but you need to make sure that the temples are the right length to begin with. Certain styles of mens eyewear can be ordered in various temple arm lengths, so ask your optician.

• Choose eyewear with a comfortable nose-piece. Try the glasses on and then move your head up and down. Bend over as if you’re picking up something from the floor to see how well the glasses stay in place. When nose pads and temple arms are adjusted correctly, the glasses should stay in place without pressing on your face or the bridge of your nose.

Extra-durable mens glasses are made of titanium and stainless steel, which are stronger than other metal frames, or of flexible materials, such as Flexon, which will automatically return to its original shape even if it’s bent, twisted or crushed.

Mens eyewear fashion takes older shapes and gives them a new twist. The aviator style is back, but made with newer and more durable materials. While the smaller, John-Lennon type of glasses are still around, larger and bolder mens eyeglasses are in. Just make sure that your body type can handle some of these bigger styles. Or if you prefer a modern or minimalist look, go for the rimless or semi-rimless styles, and younger, hip or retro looks can be found in lightweight plastic frames. Classic tortoise-shell frames will probably stay in style forever!
